Project description:

During previous projects carried out by ETLog Health EnviroTech & Logistics GmbH in Vietnam and Indonesia, problems and shortcomings in the prevention of infectious diseases in the healthcare sector were recognized. These shortcomings were resulting in an over-use of antibiotics, high rates of nosocomial infections and thousands of occupational accidents which could be prevented by applying better working practices. Studies carried out by ETLog Health EnviroTech & Logistics GmbH showed that the rate of e.g. accidents with sharp items (needles, etc.) among the health workers is about 3-8 times higher than the international average. Deficits exist on the technical/administrative side as well as on the medical site. The know-how in the field of infection control and occupational safety can be considered as low. Safe working processes and quality control are seldom introduced.

It is the task of this project to develop standards for the safe management of critical working processes, to demonstrate best practices, to train staff on safe work processes and to raise awareness on STD (sexually transmitted diseases) among the healthcare staff. The project shall be carried out under the frame of the PPP-Programme of the BMZ/GTZ. The project partners are expecting to create strong synergies with planned and already started projects of the German bilateral development cooperation in Vietnam as well as in Indonesia.
