Project description:

In response to the terrible earthquake in the Pakistani-controlled state of Azzad Jammu & Kashmir of October 2005 with particular devastating damage to the majority of health facilities, the German Government has offered a grant for the reconstruction of 3 health facilities and technical assistance to health planning. The project is implemented by the consortium of AGEG and Mediconsult in coordination with the parallel TC activities as well as the reconstruction efforts of other donors and the Pakistani authorities. Three health facilities in the districts of Muzaffarabad and Bagh are selected for reconstruction. The AIMS in Muzaffarabad is envisaged to develop into the major referral hospital of AJ&K including secondary and tertiary care level provision. The reconstruction of the hospitals in Bagh and Kahutta is mandatory after total damage, since they serve huge populations in remote areas.Apart from the reconstruction and new design of health facilities as well as procurement of new equipment, the project also provides training in hospital management, nursing, IT, use of equipment and waste management.
