Project description:

The contribution of the German cooperation through KfW Development Bank aims to strengthen the plan of the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan to modernize and rationalize hospital structures, in order to improve the health status of the population. This will be achieved, among other interventions, through the provision of improved mother and child health services in the Khatlon province, thereby helping the country to reach the Millennium Development Goals IV and V.

The program is intended to cover clinical services, equipment, infrastructure and necessary training (as required in human resources, clinical skills, and management and modern health practices). The program is also intended to complement and be consistent with ongoing health reform, rationalization and system improvement in Tajikistan.

Healthcare waste management systems are not or insufficient implemented in all of the target facilities. A detailed technical snap-shot analysis of the available logistical and treatment equipment of the solid waste and will be carried out under special consideration of practical and operational aspects. Based on the results and under consideration of EHS, hygiene and environmental aspects, basic, standardized waste disposal strategies will be developed for each target health facility. For the defined waste management infrastructure and equipment, an overall cost estimation will be carried out. For each target facility, an estimation of the future operation and maintenance cost of the environmental system will be carried out.
