Project description:

In the Government Negotiations on Development Cooperation between the Government of the Socialistic Republic of Viet Nam and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2010, the German Government has committed up to 10 million Euros to improving the waste management – waste water and solid waste – of health facilities in up to 5 provinces (Yen Bai, Thanh Hoa, Phu Yen, Nghe An and Thai Binh). Out of these funds, up to 5 million Euros can be allocated to the Viet Duc Hospital in Hanoi.

The objective of the new FC commitment is as follows:

  • Wastewater and solid waste management in selected health facilities at provincial and district level of the five development cooperation programme provinces and in the Viet Duc Hospital is needs-driven and environmentally sound, and complies with national and international standards.

The new FC commitment is to achieve the following result:

  • In selected health facilities a needs-driven wastewater and solid waste disposal infrastructure is in place, which complies with national and international environmental standards.
  • Human capacities have been developed to ensure the efficient and sustainable operation of the wastewater and solid waste disposal plants.

Services provided by ETLog Health EnviroTech & Logistics:

  • Detailed assessment of the waste water treatment plant at the Viet Duc Hospital. Preliminary Design of comprehensive upgrading of waste water treatment plant that meets national and international standards as well as the needs of the hospital.
  • Development of a concept for the efficient operation of the wastewater plant including maintenance.
  • Detailed assessment of the wastewater and solid waste disposal plants provided / to be provided as a partner contribution within the framework of Phase I and II of development cooperation programme "Strengthening Provincial Health Systems".
  • Assessment of the operation capacity of the facilities (financial and staff) to ensure that the proposed up-grading measures comply with the operation capacity.
  • Development of a concept for the efficient operation of the wastewater and solid waste plants including maintenance. This will include training required to realise the concept.
  • Costing of required measures (upgrading and/or new technologies) as well as cost calculation regarding operation of waste water and solid waste plants, including training requirements for selected facilities.
