Project description:

Rumania became a member of the E.U. on 1 January 2007.

The general objective of the contract is strengthening the institutional capacity for the implementation and improvement of the environmental requirements of the Community. The purpose of the project is to increase the technical capacity of the Romanian authorities (the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development, the Ministry of Public Health) for the implementation and improvement of the legislation in the field if internal management and disposal of hazardous waste generated in health units.

The specific objective is to help the Ministry of Public Health observe the legislation in the field of medical waste and the Plan for the Implementation of the Waste Incineration Directive 76/2000 by providing training to staff, improving the medical waste management and finding solutions for the disposal of hazardous waste.coming soon

  • Review of the legislation on medical waste management
  • Research on the costs related to the implementation of an efficient management system for hazardous and non-hazardous waste in health units;
  • Solutions for the improvement of the stages of management / collection of hazardous medical waste that can be recycled and recovered in health units;
  • Solutions for reducing the risks generated due to the inappropriate handling of hazardous waste as well as best solutions for final disposal of hazardous medical waste in compliance with the national and European standards;
  • Report on the improvement of the exactness and accuracy of the database (which data should be collected, the manner in which data should be collected, interpretation of data) relating to the management of medical waste.
  • Recommendations on measures for the improvement of cooperation (joint meetings, solutions for efficient communication) between institutions involved in the management of medical waste.
